Deconstruction is the selective dismantlement of building components, specifically for reuse, repurposing, recycling, and waste management. It is a method of harvesting what is commonly considered “waste” and reclaiming it into useful building material. The Habitat Home Centers’ Wrecking Crew provides non-structural deconstruction, also known as “soft stripping”, which consists of reclaiming non-structural components, appliances, doors, windows, and finish materials at a low cost.
Benefits to you and your community: reduce disposal costs and landfill fees plus donations can be an income tax write-off (visit your tax consultant for more information), while supporting a circular economy by keeping materials in the community and out of the landfill.
An example of salvageable merchandise are:
- windows
- doors
- cabinets (must be complete; no water damage, mold or breaks)
- formica, granite, corian counter tops
- porcelain and fiberglass tubs, Jacuzzis and showers (cast iron not acceptable)
- sinks, faucets and more
