Volunteer Spotlight: Alex Miranda
By: Sarah Inez Arredondo
Who is Alex Miranda?
Alex Miranda is a 41 year old Puerto Rican native, who first moved to Texas in 1994. He and his family moved to Florida 4 years later then moved back to Texas in 2012.
Alex has been volunteering in the Habitat Home Center located at 5482 Walzem Rd. since 2014. He took a 2 year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic to ensure his health and well-being.
He returned in early June 2022, and was greeted with enthusiastic smiles and questions about what he did when he was home.
When does he volunteer?
Alex can be found volunteering from 8am-11am every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. He is super communicative and calls into the store to let the staff know if he’s running late or won’t be volunteering that day.
What tasks does he assist with?
He “helps customers find what they need. I keep the parking lot safe and free from shopping carts. I also assist staff with various tasks such as straightening isles, stocking shelves and other light duty work.”
Always with a smile on his face and ready for conversation, Alex makes you feel welcomed while providing great customer service. He constantly checks up on customers to ensure they can find what they are searching for. He’s always ready to lend a helping and hand and ensure the work he does helps support Habitat’s mission.
We appreciate Alex’s dedication to service at Habitat and thank him for giving back to his community through our store. His service along with all volunteers who help in our stores, office and construction site, directly impact Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio & Guadalupe Valley’s home building program.
