Affordable homeownership matters!

Right here in Guadalupe County 15,400+ individuals have unmet housing needs and 1 in 4 children in Seguin live in poverty. The lasting stability affordable homeownership provides means that families have a safe space to live, raise their children and dream.

Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio took on the Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity service area in 2021 – since then we have built 21 affordable Habitat homes in the Seguin community.

As Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio & Guadalupe Valley celebrates it’s 50th anniversary this year – building more affordable homeownership in both Bexar and Guadalupe Counties continues to be our focus.

Here are our plans for Guadalupe County:

In September 2026 a member of the Seguin community will start a new term on Habitat’s board of directors. They will help lead the work of Habitat in Bexar and Guadalupe Counties.

Habitat has an opening for a Guadalupe Valley Chapter Director. This is a key staff member who will ensure that the local community will raise funds and help continue to build homes for years to come. If you know of anyone who would be good for this position please direct them to https://habitatsa.org/hiring/.

The Habitat home currently under construction will be dedicated in June. Construction on the next home will start on August 22nd. Join us by signing up to volunteer https://habitatsa.org/get-involved or donate today.

Habitat owns 10 buildable lots in Seguin. We plan to build homes on those lots over the next few years. Additionally, we own 11.5 acres on Jefferson Avenue that will be the future home of 45+ affordable homes. With the community’s help we are starting to gather the funds needed to complete the infrastructure development work. Funding from the community is crucial to enable us to develop this future Habitat for Humanity neighborhood. Stay tuned!

Build for Better, Habitat’s signature annual wall building event, will take place later this year. More to come on the exact details and date.

While we don’t currently have a store in Seguin – we’re always looking for an affordable and efficient space to do business. Until the right fit comes along we do continue to accept donations of building materials and home improvement items. Proceeds benefit homebuilding in Seguin and San Antonio.

The future is bright. Habitat has and always will be grass roots. We build where there is need and a committed community of supporters. We look forward to helping be a solution to poverty in the Seguin community for years to come.
