This July we celebrated Habitat’s 50th anniversary in a very “Habitat” way! We built a
Habitat home and the walls for future homes in just 50 hours straight. It was an ambitious
build to celebrate our 50th anniversary and with the community’s support – mission
accomplished!

From July 16 – 18, local businesses, faith organizations, a very happy first-time home buying
family and more than 1,000 volunteers came together with one shared goal — to build for
better!

Everyone rolled up their sleeves, drove nails, and worked through the night, in 2-hour shifts,
to celebrate what we do best. Together, we completed the house and built the walls for
seven future Habitat homes.

A very special thank you to Methodist Healthcare Ministries for funding the 50-Hour Build
home. In addition to funding the home they donated the land for our newest Habitat
community, Methodist Meadows. Also, they were extremely gracious to allow us to set up
shop in their parking lot at their Dixon Health & Wellness Center adjacent to the
community.

Another big shout-out to Valero for helping with a lot of the equipment we needed to stage
this big event – tents, lights, generators – they were generous in helping us be ready. While
the tents were planned to help mitigate the noise and heat – they majorly helped keep us
dry for the rainstorm that came to our kickoff ceremony.
For everyone who “showed” up to this event – either with nail apron or good wishes from a
far – we couldn’t have done this without your tremendous support.

As we look forward to the next 50 years – we hope you come along for the journey:
